An initial capital or initial cap is when the  first letter on a page is bigger and more special than everything else.  You might have seen this design element before in storybooks.

That one big letter becomes art, and shows your reader where to start.  You can create this initial cap on your computer or draw it by hand.  You can also draw it by hand and scan it on to your computer!
