Run to your next idea…

If you see The Story Elves workshop from above, say from the comfort of an eagle’s nest, you will likely notice the number of trails and pathways crisscrossing the forest—usually with a number of elves traveling on them.  There is a simple explanation:  we elves think best on the move.  Our jingling feet have worn paths that are deep and long.

You see, in our distant past, we were happily nomadic, and we traveled up to 20 kransmeres per day on foot (a kransmere being about 1 mile).  Our brains adapted to this brisk way of life and even today, an elven brain continues to prefer to think when the legs are carrying it at some speed.

Therefore, trouble can begin to brew when we sit for too long in one spot.  Sitting can slow down our ideas and make our brains feel painfully sluggish.  And whenever this happens, we know full well to set off.

New idea:   This is true for humans, too!  Human brains brighten up with a good sprint, jog or mosey!  If you are getting ready to work on a story, you might do your brain a big favor and take it out for a walk first.

If you feel stuck, discouraged or downcast while working, definitely get to your feet!  Don’t delay.  This will help.
