Adding in art

Now that I’ve settled on the two typefaces for the story text and the background parchment, it is time to add in the illustrations.

This is an exciting step!  Scoble, the illustrator elf, draws a pencil sketch.  I then put the sketch on the page, along with the story text, to make sure everything works together.

I always need to move things around, and try things in different places, before the page looks right.

You use a lot of intuition in design, and a lot of trial and error (which means try it and see if you like it!).  There are lost of little decisions to make, but they can all add up to something very beautiful.
